Beta Info
Why do you need a beta reader? Because you're not the only one that's going to read your fic! The difference between 'to' and 'too' might be just one letter, but it is often enough to jerk a reader out of the story.
Moreover beta reader provides another set of eyes for your story. He or she can point out the weakness (and strengths) of your fic before it goes into public viewing. Betas not only help you put your best story forward, but allows you to improve your writing skills and take your craft to another level.
Find a beta!
Yahoo!Groups Beta Listings: Tons and tons of beta groups listed in Yahoo!Groups
Tips on Finding the Right Beta
If you're looking for a beta in a large group, tell them what kind of beta-ing you need. Everything from grammar, vocabulary, structure, flow to technobabble and general exposition/plot/denouement suggestions. If you're just looking for something specific, let them know.
If you're thinking about taking up an offer by someone who's willing to beta in general, if possible, read what they have written to see if it matches some of your expectations in regards to how it is/should be written.
Before taking the plunge, come to an agreement on the rating, shippage, and response time that is comfortable for the both of you.
Remember that's a real person behind the beta. They can have other immediate concerns and are suceptible to error as we all are. They are doing this for free, so be polite and credit them whenever possible.

Your Rights
Your Rights as a Fanworks Author/Contributor @ LD
#1 You have the right to remove any and all of your work. The only possible exception would be the Round Robin stories, which can still be removed if permission from everyone is received.
#2 You own your work. LD does not have any rights to your work and cannot profit from it in anyway.
#3 The LD administrator will respond in a timely manner to your requests and comments regarding #1 and #2.
#4 LD and your contents within will never be sold to a third party.
Details on #1
On the LD forum: Once you are logged in, you have the permission to delete your posts. The first post in a thread that has replies are locked from being deleted, but the content can still be edited/removed. There is also an option to delete your forum account by going to your profile.
On the main site: Unfortunately, the site's archive is old school, hand coded HTML. I completely understand that authors want more autonomy and control over their fan fiction and I regret that the current archive isn't structured this way. Please contact me to request changes, removal, or direct linking back to your preferred archive. My contact information is directly on the site and I monitor all forum/LJ postings. I'll reply within one week, usually sooner. My Vulcan side wants me to add an exception: if something happens to me, the web host is prepaid with a deposit, and it will run out sooner or later if money isn't added.
